Objectives of the Course To provide knowledge and skill about handicapped children and their general features. To give information on the causes, diagnosis, education of handicapped children. To provide knowledge about integration applications, to give knowledge about study with parents. To gain competence about the concepts related to mainstreaming, mainstreaming techniques, preparation activities for mainstreaming, main points to be considered in mainstreaming education and mainstreaming programs.
Contents of the Course Handicapped children and Special education, developmental disabilities, mental disability and autism, learning difficulties, hearing disabilities, language and speech disorders, emotion and behavior disorders, visual disabilities, physical disabilities, superior intelligence and talent, early education, special education applications in the World and Turkey

1 Explain the definition and scope of special education term. Explain the characteristics of children with special needs.
2 Explain special education support services by giving examples.
3 Gives information about the past and present of special education applications in our country
4 Explain how inclusion applications are performed. Indicates gradually what needs to be done for mainstreaming students.
5 Describe general characteristics of individuals with different characteristics such as mental retardation, superior intelligence, learning disability, emotion and behavior disorder, hearing impairment, visual disability, advanced and multiple disability physical disability.
