Passport, Visa and Residence Permit

For the Exchange Program Students

 

The exchange program student prepares the documents in their own responsibility, and applies for a passport of at least 1 year, according to the visa conditions of the country where they will go.  Students who go abroad are exempted from passport and foreign exit fee. In order to take advantage of passport and foreign departure fee exemption, the requirements are to be a student and not be over the age of 25.  It is required for students over the age of 25 to apply for the passport and foreign departure fee exemption form. Graduates can not benefit from this exemption. In order to facilitate the exchange students' visas, written correspondence is given to the Consulate of the country that he or she will be visiting.

 

 

 

 

For Foreigners

 

Procedures and principles regarding the arrival of foreign students to Turkey for education and training, acceptance of educational institutions, duties of related institutions and institutions in this area and obligations of foreign students are carried out according to the “Law on Foreign Students Studying in Turkey” and "Regulation on Foreign Students Studying in Turkey". According to this;

 

Student Visa Requirements

Foreigners who want to study in Turkey in a primary school, high school, undergraduate and doctorate level, foreigners who want to come to our country to learn Turkish must enter Turkey with a valid entry visa with their "learning" right from their foreign representatives with a valid passport.  

It is not required to have a student visa for the foreign students who have completed secondary and higher education in Turkey, who want to study undergraduate and postgraduate education without interruption, children of foreigners who have work and residence permits in Turkey, foreign students who want to study at undergraduate level, and those who attend summer courses which does not exceed three months.

 

 

Working Prohibition and Exception

 

Foreign students cannot work in any income-generating business during their education.  However, foreign students at the graduate level can be paid for their fees at the higher education institutions where they do research.

 

Foreign Student Examination

 

Students who will take the "Examination for Foreign Students" to study at the undergraduate level are obliged to participate in examinations which is to be determined by the Turkish authorities in their own countries.









ARRIVAL TO MERSİN

 

Airway

 

There are domestic and international flights from Adana Şakirpaşa Airport, which is 65 km away from Mersin. The distance of Adana Şakirpaşa Airport to İstanbul Atatürk Airport is 787 km, and to Ankara Esenboğa Airport is 443 km.

 

You can reach the Mersin city center from Adana Şakirpaşa Airport by the public transport of the airline, and the cost is 15 TL.

 

Highway

 

Highways in Mersin are very well-developed.  You have an access to all places in Turkey, including Mersin and its surroundings via highway. You may reach places from Mersin Intercity Bus Terminal every day.

 

Railway

 

There are train services between Mersin and Adana, which are organized in certain periods from 6 am to 11 pm. It is possible to buy round-trip train tickets for 12 TL.

 

There are train services from Mersin Railway Station to various places in Turkey.

 

Transportation

 

Various public transportation vehicles facilitate transportation to the university campus.  Transportation is quite easy as the campuses are in the city center.

 

Climate

 

Typical Mediterranean climate prevails in Mersin and around. Summers are dry and hot, and winters are warm and rainy. The average temperature is 18,7 Celsius degrees. The lowest temperatures during the year are seen in January and February, and the highest are seen in July and August. The average temperature of the seawater is measured at 20,8 degrees.

 

Currency

 

The currency in Turkey is the Turkish Lira. 1 American Dollar equals to approximately 3.80 liras, 1 Euro equals to approximately 4.10 liras, and 1 Sterling equals to approximately 4.70 liras. While there are bank notes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200; coins are 5, 10, 25 and 50 kuruş and 1 lira.

 

Communication Services and Emergency Telephones

 

There are three different cell phone operators in which to choose from. These are, Turkcell, Türk Telekom and Vodafone. When the exchange students apply to these  operators with their passports, they can receive a cheap and efficent  communication services.
